Student summer internship

Here at Netgen we design and develop web solutions and build tools for web professionals. Our speciality is working on various web projects, with which we have almost two decades of experience. Since 2012 we've been organizing our own international web-related conference. Lately, we've extended our focus to building our own products.

Our internship - tl;dr version ;)

Our student summer internship lasts around 4-6 weeks, during July and August. We usually select a group of students to work together on a specific assignment, prepared and specially designed for the occasion. The student group works as a team under the guidance of our top developers and experts as their mentors. The internship ends with the assignment completion and presentation to the entire Netgen team.

The internship takes place at our Netgen office in Zagreb, there is no remote version ;)

What are we looking for?

We get it, you don't have that much experience. You are still working your way up. That is great, and we actually might help you grow. However, if we were to name some specifics, this is what we'd hint at:

  • Experience working in PHP (working with Symfony is a plus!)
  • Experience working with Javascript and knowledge of HTML/CSS
  • Experience in creating web applications and responsive websites is much appreciated
  • Understanding the web development process
  • Ability to write well-structured code
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members

Why Netgen?

You will have a chance to work with our top-notch developers and web experts. They will work with you throughout the entire assignment, ensuring you stay on track. Don't be afraid to ask for directions if you get stuck. Your questions and ideas will be listened to, respected and answered.

The assignment we prepare may be made for internship purposes only, but it will have its purpose. You might find it interesting that our team is still using some of the projects that former student groups have worked on. While you will not work with our clients, the internship will show you what everyday work in Netgen looks like.

We nourish a comfortable yet stimulating working environment with colleagues who are always there for each other. There is hardly a dull moment in our office. Plus, there are coffee and tea, cookies, and fruit around to give you a kick when you need it.

How to apply?

We usually open applications in mid-spring. However, you can reach out at any time. Final selections will be made during June/July. Send us an email at [email protected] containing:

  • a short CV
  • a list of the relevant projects/initiatives you have worked on

Once you apply, you can expect to receive a short assignment via email. Don't worry, we'll give you enough time to impress us.

What happens after the internship?

Well, we might still hang out together :)

As a matter of fact, 18 per cent of our current employees started working with us after completing the internship. More reasons to apply and spend the summer with us!

Q&A

After we receive your application, we will contact you back as soon as possible. Our team will evaluate your application and decide whether you might be the one we are looking for. If you might be, we will get back to you with a short assignment to get a clearer understanding of your skills or invite you for a cup of coffee during an interview.

When you send us a job application, you can be sure that we will review it thoroughly and carefully and that we will get back to you, even if we believe that you might not be the best candidate. Usually, we either send our candidates an assignment related to the job position or we invite them for an interview. During an interview we will discuss your assignment approach, and we will most definitely talk about your previous experience and career aspirations.

We are quite methodical about the entire selection process, so when it comes to interviewing we like to talk for hours, if necessary :) We like to get to know you and we believe that it is important that you get to know us, too. That said, you will be talking to our co-founders and some of the colleagues that you will be working closely with.

Working at Netgen will give you a chance to work for various clients from different countries, considering our two offices in Zagreb and Zurich. Also, it is interesting to mention that the average tenure of our current employees is 6.8 years. We are quite sure that our frequent birthday parties and after work beers are to blame :)

Generally, yes. However, we prefer for our new employees to start working at Netgen from our offices. We believe that is a much better way to go through your onboarding process from the office and meet the entire team.
