Website for Hotel Mulin – the hotspot for pleasure-seekers

The picturesque 3* hotel in the mountains of the Grisons requested and received a new, modern website. Netgen worked with the headless content management system Storyblok for the first time in carrying out the project.

Client

The Hotel Mulin is a familiar-managed hotel in Breil/Brigels in the Grisons. It features 20 rooms and accommodates (young) adults aged 14 and over and even their furry friends (dogs ;)). The hotel is primarily designed for sporty, active guests who like to spend their day outdoors doing various summer or winter activities and enjoy a cosy atmosphere in the lounge with a fine cocktail in the evening. ‘The Mulin’ is a hotspot for active pleasure-seekers.

Our Role

Netgen is responsible for consulting, conception and UX design as well as for the technical development of the website based on Storyblok. The texts were created in collaboration with bop Communications.

Challenge

The charming Hotel Mulin in the Rhaeto-Romanic mountain village of Breil/Brigels can reflect an eventful history. Built in the 1970s, for decades the hotel enjoyed great popularity among loyal skiers who spent their winters in the beautiful Brigels ski area until the former owner's family left the village. After a long period of closure, the hotel was extensively renovated in 2018 and reopened as an adults-only hotel.

After a few years of operation, the existing website could no longer keep up with the overall appearance of the hotel, which is why Netgen was entrusted with a complete redesign.

Solution

Design and Content

The website focuses on a minimalist and modern aesthetic, which is enhanced by generous white spaces, a subtle colour palette and high-quality imagery. The selection of colours, dominated by natural tones and lots of white space, conveys calm and elegance, which is well suited to a boutique hotel. Large-format images dominate the website and immediately convey a sense of the atmosphere of the hotel and the picturesque mountain backdrop.

The website uses well-chosen text and images with a personal touch and a touch of local flavour to tell a story and highlight the characteristics of the hotel. This is particularly important in the hotel industry to appeal to potential guests emotionally and convey a feeling of exclusivity and relaxation.

Short user journeys and interactive elements

While the old website consisted of many disorganised subpages, the new website comes with a simple page architecture: The navigation of the website is intuitive and straightforward. The main menu items are structured and visible, making it easy to find your way around. The clear menu navigation ensures that users can quickly find the desired information, whether it is about the rooms, the offers or the booking.

The booking function and other interactive elements are seamlessly integrated without cluttering the design. This functionality is easily accessible and works smoothly, guaranteeing a good user experience.

Summer and winter activities as the centrepiece of the website

In the ‘Deals’ and ‘Activities’ sections, users can find numerous special offers and inspiration for sporting and cultural activities in and around Brigels. Each offer and activity is presented with appealing images that immediately catch the eye. This visualisation supports the text descriptions and arouses the interest of visitors. Thanks to a simple filter function, everyone can find the right leisure activities: from ‘Hiking’ and ‘Recreation’ to ‘Fun’ and ‘Speed’.

Storyblok

The headless CMS offers a lot of flexibility for both developers and users. Storyblok offers a visual editor that allows content creators to edit content directly in the preview of the page. This reduces the need for constant consultation with developers and improves the efficiency of the content management process.

Content curation is possible thanks to the reusable, modular block structure and the platform's functions and tools. The cloud-based infrastructure also makes the CMS highly scalable. It can easily keep pace with the requirements of growing companies and projects without the need for additional investment in infrastructure. Another advantage of the powerful CMS is its API-first architecture, which enables easy integration with other tools and services.

The collaboration with Netgen was very straightforward. Our input was well taken into account in the design and we are very proud of the new, modern website.
